‘Human Terrain’ and Afghan war hit rocky ground

In the background of former Commander of U.S. and ISAF Forces in Afghanistan, Stanley McChrystal’s highly publicized resignation and mounting controversy surrounding U.S./NATO counterinsurgency operations in Afghanistan, HTS co-director and co-founder Steve Fondacaro departs while the experimental program undergoes a protracted and delayed review by the Secretary of Defense.  Two high profile articles outlining HTS’s uncertain future, perceived troubles and the retirement of Steve Fondacaro – a key subject in the Human Terrain documentary – have recently been featured on nature.com and wired.com. The articles underline a mounting tide of speculation and criticism about the ethics, efficacy, and morality of U.S./NATO operations in Afghanistan highlighted by a Rolling Stone expose ‘The Runaway General‘ inditing U.S. leaders commanding the war in Afghanistan.
